Communication
Communication, Language and Literacy is one of the developmental stages identified by the nationally recognised and government-backed Early Years Foundation Stage. Leading online childrens toys retailer DiscoverMe (http://www.discovermetoys.co.uk/) has created its entire range of educational toys based around these key stages of learning and development. Here, DiscoverMe shares some of the very best toys to help develop your child’s early reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
It’s never too soon to stimulate your baby’s communication, language and literacy skills. Babies up to 6 months will respond brilliantly to baby toys that have been designed with this developmental stage in mind. For instance, one of the best ways to introduce baby to the wonderful world of books is with the Scholastic Finger Puppet Books from Noah’s Ark. Grab baby’s attention with the cute finger puppet characters and show him the pages of his very first board book nestled into the palm of the finger puppet glove. This toy alone sums up the philosophy behind the DiscoverMe range of educational toys: playing and learning all rolled up in one!
Signing is an important early form of communication in children and what better way to develop their signing skills than with the My First Animal Signs Book. Suitable for children between 6 and 36 months, the book contains 48 fun and easy-to-follow animal signs which are so much fun, baby won’t even know he’s learning. Budding bi-linguists between the ages of 6 and 12 months will love the BabyBoomBoom Band Bag range of nursery rhyme CDs and musical toys in a range of foreign languages. Each verse of a popular nursery rhyme is repeated in another language and baby can play along with all the child-friendly instruments.
As children grow older there are lots of books, toys and CDs at DiscoverMe which help to hone their Communication, Language and Literacy skills. The range of books at DiscoverMe covers topics as wide-ranging as building relationships, meal times and cooking and welcoming a new baby into the family. No matter what the topic, your child between the ages of 1 and 5 will be learning how to build on their reading, communication and interpersonal skills.
This is just a small selection of the best educational toys available from DiscoverMe which have been specifically designed to help children in the Communication, Language and Literacy stage. The most useful tool I’ve found for reducing my grocery costs is to keep a “price book.” I first heard about the idea from Amy Dacyzn (pronounced “decision”), author of the Tightwad Gazette. She went from rags to riches (she has 6 kids, too!) by being a tightwad. So no, she’s not writing her gazette anymore, she’s probably getting a professional massage or is in the hot tub (I would hope), but the newsletters were compiled and released into three books and you can probably find them at your library. They are also now in one volume called, The Complete Tightwad Gazette.

Book design is more relevant that one can think. When one says “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” the phrase should only be taken in the context of not judging a person by looks or physical appearance. However, when it comes to books themselves, it is quite natural to judge a book based on its entire packaging. This is the reason why book design is important.
What are book clubs? It is a group of book readers who participate in regular discussions about what they have read. Traditional clubs would usually meet in person each month to talk about a certain topic. They would usually share their ideas about something they have read. You could join Doubleday Book Club as one of the many clubs you can be part of if you are a lover of literature. By doing so, you have the opportunity to meet new people, make friends and widen your knowledge by reading books.
Globally, hardbound books are released mostly ahead of popular paperback editions by major publishers. They do so to maximize their profits as these hardbound books are priced quite steep in comparison to the popular Paperbacks. However, in certain cases, they do release in mass market paperback editions; in cases where the paperbacks are by renowned authors like Jeffery Archer or John Grisham or Sidney Sheldon, whose books are the most sought after the world over in huge volumes. And yet their profits remain the same as found on the sales of hardbound books.

Today there is no question that an author should promote their books, even they offer as cheap books, but how aggressively one should go about it. The sad truth is that publishers often fail to promote books, and if we, the authors do not
Typically independent freelance book authors & self-publishers have a difficult time competing for “shelf-space” with the big book publishing companies on Amazon.com. We can all agree that Amazon has made self-publishing a viable income generator for self-published authors and publishers, but getting your book to show up high enough in the search results on Amazon is often far more difficult than actually writing the book was. The other big problem for authors and self-
